On March 11, 2021, Google Cloud launched Mission Critical Services (MCS) for GCP, a new premium service for customers that ask for collaborative support protecting mission-oriented workloads. The latest effort of Google Cloud is to step up the support for enterprise customers.

Mission-critical services are available for purchase to Google Cloud’s Premium Support customers. The MCS service is consultative and not like other mission-critical services in the cloud that give the cloud vendor full responsibility for keeping the workloads up and running. Google implements the same methods and concepts to MCS to support the own Google Cloud infrastructure.

“It’s no secret that, for customers in the most demanding of enterprise environments, even a minute of downtime can mean millions of dollars of lost revenue,” Google Cloud’s Customer Experience VP John Jester wrote in a blog post.

Jester quotes examples of some industries that would find service valuable; it includes industries from telecommunications to e-commerce. When a customer adopts the service, Google works with the customer to evaluate and improve control, architecture, observability, and measurement. The services can be architecture reviews, biannual tune-ups, and other ongoing check-ins. Here, Google makes a difference by putting its highest tier of engineers to monitor workload to prevent and mitigate incidents.

“If you have any issues–24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week–we’ll spin up a live, war room with our experts within five minutes,” Jester wrote.

Under the direction of Google Cloud Chief Thomas Kurian, the public cloud provider has taken several steps to enhance business in the enterprise. Kurian is taking the support of veterans of the enterprise software industry, including Jester.

The company has also taken several steps to improve the customer service for the enterprise. For the last year, Google worked on the customer programs’ voice, expanded the customer advisory boards, and announced an independent Google cloud customer community (C2C). It also introduced new compliance and security assessments plus assured workloads for customers in regulated industries.
